St. Ives Guildhall

Following significant increases in population, largely associated with the fishing industry, it was decided that the town needed a purpose built guildhall. The building was completed in 1939 to provide the Neoclassical design of local architect, Geoffrey B Drewitt.

MADD were appointed in 2021 to carry out a feasibility study to explore ideas for the restoration and replanning of St Ives Guildhall which would enable it to achieve the Guildhalls vision to position itself at the centre of live performance locally, to be a culturally significant venue regionally, nationally and internationally. Building on its heritage, it will work in partnership to develop and deliver high quality experiences that entertain, inspire, celebrate and surprise!

The feasibility study focused on three main areas which would enable it to extend its economic season beyond the busy summer period by being able to attract larger audience events whilst forming part of a network of other venues to maximise its reach and appeal.

The study explored new ways of programming the forecourt to increase revenue and give the building greater presence within the town, remodelling front of house areas to provide a new bar/café area and toilet provision and refurbishments of the existing hall to enable it to accommodate a number of new flexible seating layouts. The refurbishment of the Substage and back of house areas and services were also included in the study.
