The Other Room Theatre, Cardiff

MADD were appointed in 2023 to carry out a Feasibility Study to explore ideas for the conversion of a former basement nightclub into a studio theatre for The Other Room Theatre in Cardiff, which would be used as the basis for Capital funding applications.

Established in 2014, The Other Room has become a fixture of the Welsh theatre ecology. It is a small space where visionary artists have the freedom to take big risks; where distinctive and challenging theatre like nothing else in the Welsh capital is presented; and, where new Welsh plays go toe-to-toe with the most revered modern drama. An intimate theatre that brings audiences back to the live experience. It is an inclusive theatre where Wales’ identity as a bilingual nation is cherished and is evolving.

‘The next version of The Other Room will be bigger, bolder, braver, and busier. It will increase the theatre’s capacity, provide better amenities for audiences and artists, and increase our impact on our community here in Cardiff. We think this former nightclub space is bursting with charm, and has a grungy quality that we want to keep.’
